What is it about?
In this paper, a Turbine-Based Combined-Cycle inward turning variable geometry inlet for hypersonic vehicle with Mach 2 to Mach 6 was designed and investigated numerically.

Why is it important?
The simulation results showed the inlet can work with high performance over Mach 2 to 6.
Perspectives
Compare to 2D planar inlet, inward turning inlet has some essential advantages: high compression ratio, short length in axial direction, small wetted area, high mass capture rate and so on, so the inlet based on inward turning flowpath was considered as a competitive alternative for TBCC application.
