What is it about?

Develops a method to identify couplings in multidisciplinary systems that can be neglected. Removing some coupling introduces an approximation but makes the multidisciplinary system easier to solve. Our approach optimally balances accuracy with model sparsity.

Why is it important?

Multidisciplinary systems are difficult to solve when there are many interactions between coupled disciplines. Using approximate models with reduced coupling addresses computational cost. It also reveals where the most important cross-discipline sensitivities lie.
