What is it about?

This publication summarizes research done to create an implement a control system for regulating the flow of air in a Circulation Control wing, a method used for increasing the lift of an aircraft. It focuses on methods for accurately controlling a centrifugal compressor, as well as characterizing the energy consumption of the system.

Why is it important?

This work creates a framework for quickly and accurately controlling the mass air flow in Circulation Control applications. The characterization of energy usage allows for a user to control the system such that battery capacity can be optimized. It also creates a pathway for future work in system-level energy optimization.

Perspectives

This publication investigates an exciting and previously unexplored area in Circulation Control - that relating to the control of such as system, as well as energy usage characterization. This opens up many opportunities for future work including the application of additional control systems and energy optimization techniques.
