What is it about?

This article is about some experimental data obtained from tests made to Bio-Ethanol samples mixed with Aviation Gasoline (AvGas) and the theoretical analysis developed according to the Otto cycle, for both isentropic and polytropic conditions. The results were obtained using an specific algorithm and they included the performance, fuel consumption and brake power for the selected engine (Lycoming IO-540)

Why is it important?

This article leads to the development of experimental test on different engines, applying ethanol mixtures instead of pure aviation gasoline. The reduction found in the Carbon Dioxide emissions is relevant for several companies and operators, who need to reduce their pollutant products level, as they are affected by international environmental regulations.

Perspectives

This article is part of a complete research developed by us during the creation of our Thesis. We did a serious research about the Ethanol influence on the selected engines and the profits of using this alternative fuel, instead of the traditional one. We would like to inspire people continuing to develop this research by recording several data from experimental tests on real aviation reciprocating engines at different heights, and we will be pleased to know about their results.
