What is it about?
This paper presents two important activities for a hollow cathode: (1) Thruster characterization that covers the V-I curves and cathode body temperatures. (2) 1,500 hr test in which the cathode was operated continuously at its nominal operational point. In addition, the subject cathode is a heaterless hollow cathode - a unique type of cathode that is ignited and operated without a heater.

Why is it important?
* Example of hollow cathode characterization * Example of a hollow cathode wear test * First heaterless hollow cathode to operate longer than 1,500 hr * Example of hollow cathode development campaign
