Why is it important?

Hybrid-electric propulsion represents the most likely successful case for larger-scale electric propulsion aircraft, utilizing the efficiency gains from the electric systems and the on-demand power from the hydrocarbon fuel system.

Perspectives

This is NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center's development approach to a hybrid-electric propulsion testbed with connectivity to the flight simulators to understand flight control of a hybrid-electric system, both on and off-nominal.
