What is it about?

The paper discusses an extension to the adjoint method capabilities, which enables one to compute sensitivity derivatives with respect flow parameters other than those related to geometry optimization.

Why is it important?

The so-called "non-geometric" sensitivity derivatives are computed on the basis of the same adjoint solution that is used for geometry optimization, for a given measure of merit.

Perspectives

It is still a proof of concept. But it will be further developed, so as to make a real contribution to the evaluation of stability derivatives for flight dynamics applications.
