What is it about?

Analytical Algorithm for UAS Detect and Avoid Capability, including computation of spatial threshold and avoidance maneuver.

Why is it important?

It provides the spatial threshold for UAS to effectively avoid intruding aircraft as to overcome the issues associated with temporal avoidance threshold and conflict probed based on constant intruding aircraft intent.

Perspectives

The primary advantages of the proposed DAA capability include: (1) it provides the intuitive LOWC assessment with the observed aircraft tracks to determine the LOWC without trajectory prediction and its derivatives, (2) it provides wieldy threshold and flyable avoidance maneuver guidance against not only the non-maneuvering but also the time-varying maneuvering intruding aircraft, and (3) using the configurable separation standard and navigation constant, the EDAA is flexible enough to provide the desired smoothness of avoidance maneuvers for the UAS with various sized UA made for various missions.
