What is it about?

In this paper we present the strategies implemented in GMV multi-platform Monitoring Control System for supporting the emerging (and diverse) telecommand and telemetry encryption systems based on the AES standard currently provided by commercial telecommunications satellite manufacturers in their platforms.

Why is it important?

The AES encryption system is recently emerging as the new de-facto standard for satellite telemetry and telecommand encryption. But the current implementations of AES systems in commercial telecommunications satellite platforms are very diverse in several aspects beyond the core encryption algorithm. A multi-mission monitoring control system that aims at supporting the current AES encryption systems implemented in these platforms should be designed to accommodate these differences using platform-specific extensions, if its aim is to provide an homogeneous and integrated operational concept to its users. As described in this paper, the hifly system has evolved to do so, integrating the different AES systems in a coherent and unified way.
