What is it about?

The trajectory of vortices generated by an aircraft during the take-off or landing phase is important in terms of: (i) the safety of other aircraft operating in the vicinity and (ii) the dispersion of engine exhaust gases entrained by the wake. The ability to model the wake, at the scales typically associated with wind tunnel representations of the atmospheric boundary layer, will make it possible to enhance understanding of turbulence and shear effects on vortex dispersion.
