What is it about?

The probability of a mission success is dependent on spares taken. However, too many sapares take space and require energy for the transport, but increase the probability of success. Too little spare inncreases probability of failure and all consequenrial events. Hence, some balance betwen the two options must be achieved, somehow. The paper presents a method for calculation of the consaequencies of taking a given number of spares and assist decision maker to make the final selection in coordination with all other limiting factors.

Why is it important?

For the success of the each space mission.

Perspectives

it is iumnportant as making predictions based on experience and "gut feelings" is very unreliable and could be very expensive in terms of consequences, human, enviromental and financial.
