What is it about?
This book is designed to help decision makers at all levels in industry and government to make informed decisions on how to set up a missile defense system for both national defense and for international alliance defense. It provides detailed analyses of the performance of all involved systems; the costs involved; the time it takes to develop systems; the research & development needed to overcome the risks; and finally it provides an evaluation tool that will guide the developers to make informed decisions about the required systems that provide the needed defense. Each chapter contains worked examples to illustrate key points and includes a CD with more examples for the student, engineer and program manager.

Why is it important?
The subject of providing an adequate defense against both cruise and ballistic missiles is a key subject in the defense of nations and alliance defense. Much of the work explored in the book served as a basis for the current defense of NATO Europe against missile attack and as such provides an important adjunct to current programs for Alliance defense.
