What is it about?
Fluids flow through pipes at different speeds, slower at the walls and faster in the middle. When making measurements of the fluids coming out of a pipe, it's important to understand that some of the fluid could be from an older collection time. We show, statistically, how to approximate the fraction of new and old fluid under simplified assumptions in a straight pipe. We apply this method to help design the atmospheric sampling system for the mass spectrometer on the DAVINCI Venus descent probe.
