What is it about?

Liquid-infused surfaces (LIS) have gained prominence in the recent years for drag reduction, anti-fouling, anti-icing, and dropwise condensation applications. Interestingly, LIS could also be used for enhancing boiling heat transfer even though it is difficult to imagine them as such because it appears at the outset that the infused liquid would impede the boiling process by covering the surface. However, they have the potential for enhancing boiling (even to record numbers), provided some criteria with respect to the surface features and the selection of the infused liquid are met, which are presented for the first time in this paper.
