What is it about?

The High Speed Test Track at Holloman AFB performs high speed tests to get data for hypersonic weapons, systems, and components. It uses rockets on sleds that are attached to rails with slippers. The slippers' wear rate is difficult to estimate due to the extreme temperatures due to friction. This paper describes a thermal model that was used to estimate the wear from one test in 2008.
