What is it about?

Screech tones in most cases have constant amplitude. Recent work by Malla et al. found the tone amplitude undergone an amplitude modulation resembled beats in vibration theory. however, the observed amplitude oscillations were not sinusoidal. Nonlinear effects were involved. Such a phenomenon seems not have been reported in the literature. This paper explains the kinematics and dynamics of the phenonemon.
