What is it about?

Ice formation on aircraft wings can seriously affect flight safety and performance. In this study, we used advanced computer simulations to study how wing sweep influences airflow over an iced wing. Using an improved turbulence model called AMD-IDDES, we found that the sweep angle creates strong spanwise flow that changes the shape of vortices and separation regions. These findings help improve the understanding and prediction of complex aerodynamic behavior of iced aircraft wings.
