What is it about?

Despite a perfectly symmetric configuration, the symmetry of shock trains breaks at higher Mach numbers. From the perspective of global stability analysis, we reveal that the dominant physical mechanism leading to symmetry breaking is the amplification of wall-normal velocity perturbations by the wall-normal deceleration effect working at the leading shock intersection.
