What is it about?

A novel hybrid anti-/de-icing design, which combines limited surface heating along the propeller blade leading edge and a superhydrophobic coating to treat the blade surface, was demonstrated for the first time to effectively prevent/remove the ice accretion on a rotating UAV propeller blade with substantially less power consumption than other anti/de-icing methods, rendering it a compelling strategy for UAV inflight icing mitigation.
