What is it about?
The roughness surface may promote the laminar-to-turbulent boundary-layer transition in the flow field of the aircraft to directly affect the drag on the wall, aerodynamic heating, efficiency of propulsion, and stability. Thus, accurately predicting roughness-induced transitional flows is important for the design of hypersonic vehicles. In this study, a model that could predict the roughness-induced transition is established, which could then provide guidance for the design of the aircraft.
