What is it about?
The maximum noise radiation angle from supersonic jet turbulence is controlled by Mach wave radiation. We explore different definitions of the turbulence convective Mach number, using far-field noise from the T-7A and other jet data. A simpler, data-driven definition of convective Mach number predicts the T-7A noise radiation angles over a range of thrust conditions as well as the analytical expression for Kelvin-Helmholtz instability waves.
