What is it about?
The state of the boundary layers is an important factor in the design of aerospace vehicles. At high speeds, factors as compressibility and wall-cooling effects become more pronounced. These effects lead to substantial temperature and thus, density gradients, that may be detrimental to the performance of optical sensors, communication systems, and other critical components.
