What is it about?
This work extends the previously studied linear nonmodal analysis and demonstrates the application of the nonlinear nonmodal analysis to a high-speed blunt cone configuration with reduced transition N-factor and investigates the nonlinear interaction of nonmodal planar entropy-layer disturbances with modal planar Mack-mode (MM) instabilities. We have demonstrated that the EL disturbances excited near the nose tip can excite the high-frequency MM disturbances and hence, can lead to a reduction in the transition N-factor.
