What is it about?

Composite materials are used in various products, and predicting their failures is complicated due to various factors. The work proposes a method for selecting the most effective tests to improve these predictions using the Design of Experiments technique. By using this method, researchers can identify which design specimens will provide the most valuable information to make the computer models more accurate. An example is provided involving composite bolted joints to illustrate how this approach can help understand different failure scenarios. Ultimately, performing tests on such designs can lead to better computer models, resulting in more accurate predictions of when and how composite materials will fail in different situations.
