What is it about?
Noise generated in the inlet and bypass ducts of aircraft turbofan engines is suppressed by the installation of acoustically absorbing linings on the duct walls. Lining impedance is the physical parameter describing the lining that is required to predict the noise attenuation that is achievable. This paper reviews and improves an experimental method that has been developed to indirectly determine impedance that does not require instrumentation of the sample.
