What is it about?

Ground effects on Mach cutoff of sonic boom are investigated using computational fluid dynamics analysis. The computational results show that a partly diffracted waveform with a spiked shape occurs when the horizontal rigid wall, equivalent to the ground surface, is within the caustic region. When the wall is within the shadow zone, the pressure fluctuation on the wall exceeds twice that without the wall.
