What is it about?

Hypersonic boundary layer instabilities are sensitive to a variety of mechanisms including entropy layer effects. Understanding these instabilities is critical for predicting boundary layer transition over hypersonic geometries. We show that the leading-edge curvature of an ogive-cylinder model has a direct impact on the dominant boundary layer instability mechanisms downstream. A correlation between the leading-edge curvature and the transition to turbulence is derived based on these observations.
