What is it about?
Multidisciplinary design optimization of aircraft engine fan blades particularly focusing on low-noise performance has received less research attention. We develop for the first time the adjoint-based aeroacoustic sensitivity analysis for transonic fan blade design in turbomachinery. We demonstrate that the fan "buzz-saw" noise can be significantly reduced by the proposed adjoint-based MOO process, while the fan aerodynamic performance is also improved.
