What is it about?

When the engine installed under a wing, a significant noise increase has been found. The simulation using hybrid LES-RANS methods were performed on a configuration where serrations haven been built on the engine nacelle under a three-dimensional wing. A reduction in installation noise due has been achieved by the serrations. The mechanisms for this noise reduction are analyzed using the simulation results and found that serrations can mitigate the interactions between the engine exhaust jet and the wing.
