What is it about?

The computational sensitivity can easily reflect the change of the original complex mode exported by quadratic characteristic equation and can be used effectively in model updating, damage detection and optimization design. It provided a new technique to pay more focuses on the use and computation of the second-order eigenpair sensitivities in this paper. So that the new value of complex mode after undergoing perturbation in terms of design parameters can be calculated by Taylor approximation of second degree.

Why is it important?

It provided a new technique to pay more focuses on the use and computation of the second-order eigenpair sensitivities. The algorithm of sensitivity analysis used to construct gradient matrix and Hessian matrix of complex modes has been derived. So that the new value of complex mode after undergoing perturbation in terms of design parameters can be calculated by Taylor approximation of second degree.

Perspectives

The new algorithm is easier to handle and carry on various application areas, for example, finite element model updating, damage detection, design optimization to use the complex modes only.
