What is it about?
We investigate the influence of shear in the approach flow on the forces and wake structure on an airfoil pitching sinusoidally in viscous flow using both computations and experiments. Our primary finding is symmetry breaking in the wake and non-zero lift that depends on shear rate and oscillation frequency.
