What is it about?
Wingtip-mounted propellers have been envisaged for their favorable interaction effects, leading to high system efficiency. The potentially favorable interaction of a propeller slipstream with a wingtip is a complex problem, because of the importance of vortex interaction and viscous effects. This paper examines the capability of different methods to model the propeller in a computational fluid dynamics simulation for this interaction problem. The evaluation is based on a comparison with results from a windtunnel experiment.
