What is it about?

Near-wall behaviors of components of dissipation and Reynolds-stress tensors are tested for some low-Reynolds-number turbulence models. Based on this analysis, the modification to the Reynolds-stress model using a new geometry-independent “near-wall” tensor is proposed. This corrects the behaviors of RANS model characteristics in the vicinity of solid surfaces and improves prediction accuracy, particularly in the secondary recirculation zone of a turbulent flow behind a backward-facing step.
