What is it about?

Future aircraft may involve radical changes to engine-airframe coupling. A novel framework is presented to predict installed jet noise for complex configurations. This includes numerical scheme, hybrid structured-unstructured mesh generation, LES-RANS turbulence modelling and a Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings surface placement procedure. Using this, far-field noise is accurately predicted and 3D unsteady datasets used to investigate mean flow and turbulence statistics and reveal noise sources.
