What is it about?
Wind tunnel experiments are conducted on spinning cylindrical afterbody models aligned with a Mach number 2.0 freestream flow. The central base pressure of four different models is measured at various spin rates. In contrast to a non-finned cylinder model, finned geometries show a decrease of the pressure at the base center dependent on spin rate and fin height. The effect of spin on the pressure in the wake is estimated assuming a rigid body rotation of the flow. For the finned models, the estimated pressure distribution shows reasonable agreement with the experimental data.
