What is it about?

Earth observation satellites in low Earth orbit are crucial for gathering information on various planetary phenomena, including natural disasters, through the use of scheduling algorithms. This paper implements a promising cutting-edge concept of satellite operations to the Earth observation satellite scheduling problem to improve the performance of the scheduling process. Additional solution methods are developed and used to improve the computation time required to obtain an optimal schedule. Sets of random problem characteristics are used to validate the formulations, while real-world Hurricane Sandy is used in a case study to demonstrate the value of the formulations.
