Towards Trustworthy Surrogate Models for Augmenting Certification: Fuel Tank Flammability Reduction System

What is it about?

This research improves aircraft fuel tank safety by using advanced AI models to predict how the Flammability Reduction System (FRS) will perform across various flight conditions. The FRS lowers oxygen levels in fuel tanks to reduce explosion risk, but simulating every possible scenario is costly. To address this, we created faster AI models that predict system behavior efficiently while also providing confidence in their predictions, helping ensure reliable performance and safer flights.
