What is it about?
Routinely available weather forecasts currently do not have the capability of capturing winds on the scale that impacts small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS). This work assess whether the WRF-LES, a new experimental forecasting model, is accurate enough to capture the behavior of the winds impacting sUAS flight. We compare wind data measured by an sUAS during flight to WRF-LES predictions and comment on how the WRF-LES forecast can be used to plan sUAS trajectories through the atmosphere.
