What is it about?

We develop Transformer-based Powered Descent Guidance (T-PDG) to make it easier and faster to determine the optimal way to land spacecraft. T-PDG learns from past landing trajectories to predict optimal landing paths, considering the spacecraft's current location and destination. It is particularly good at computing the complex, time-sensitive calculations needed for Mars landings. T-PDG is much faster than previous methods and includes a safety check to ensure the landing plan is viable.
