What is it about?
Small aicraft and in particular quadrotors are suceptible to environmental disturbances such as air gusts and air currents. This paper presents an approach on how to use strain gauges to help stabilize quadcopters and similar vehicles. The information from these sensors is used in closed loops for increased vehicle stability. This technology allows for more robust operation in unknown and challenging environments, potentially expanding applications and achievable missions for small unmanned aircraft.
