Measurement of Airport Operations Using a Low-Cost Transponder Data System

What is it about?

Operations counts at unmonitored general aviation airports are critical for funding allocation, yet current technologies do not provide counts of sufficient accuracy. We show how a means of counting using aircraft transponder signals can provide overall counting accuracy of better than 10%.
