What is it about?

Aircraft are becoming more flexible as a consequence of design choices made to increase overall efficiency. With increased flexibility comes new challenges and a need to examine traditional strategies for testing and modeling these newer aircraft. We developed a new way of experimentally testing and computationally modeling very flexible aircraft that accounts for the flexibility and associated large deflections in the process. We validate the new process and show that it captures the behavior of very flexible aircraft better than conventional procedures.
