Aeropropulsive Shape Optimization of an Airfoil System in the Transonic Regime

What is it about?

Distributing many engines across aircraft, especially electrified aircraft, is a promising way of improving aerodynamic performance. We show here the application of a novel optimization framework to the design of a coupled wing-nacelle cross-section to reduce aerodynamic drag and fuel burn.
