What is it about?

Parallel hybrid-electric propulsion aircrfat use muli-energy sources of different nature that imply complex power management. We assess the off-design performance of an hybrid aircraft over the payload-range diagram with optimized energy management in order to maximize fuel burn reduction for each flight condition. We show that the use of electric power and so potentiel fuel burn benefits are limited by the size of the electric motor for ranges below the design range. Aslo, we show that potential fuel burn benefits over the payload-range envelope can be increased by oversizing the electric motore, improving hybrid aircraft robustness over various operating conditions.
