What is it about?

Ducted fans or fan-in-wing type lift fans are susceptible to the disturbances originating from their inlet flow. These fans usually work either at a 90-degree angle of attack or an unusually high angle of attack. This paper describes a passive flow control device that can deal with the inlet flow distortions. The lip separation as an inlet flow distortion can be effectively dealt with a 'Double Ducted Fan' DDF concept introduced in this manuscript. The ducted fans used in VTOL vehicles especially lift fans used in the fan-in-wing configuration, benefit from the current idea.
