What is it about?

A study of how the riveting process can distort a structural assembly, mainly aeronautical structures. This paper assess a deformation mechanism which is associated with the riveting process itself.

Why is it important?

It proposes a deformation mechanism related to the rivet shank expansion in the structure and how it propagates to the remaining structure.

Perspectives

This is just a starting study of the structure's deformation phenomenon. More tests and assessments are required to reach a better and deep understanding of it. This phenomenon may contribute to variations in profile (airfoil variations) on metalic wing structures which could affect wing performance at high speeds.
