What is it about?

This research presents expandable graphite (EM) as a novel burning rate enhancer in the solid fuel ramjet (SFRJ). EM is a form of intercalated graphite, where small amounts of guest molecules are introduced among its layers. At high temperatures, EM particles embedded within a polymeric fuel matrix of an SFRJ, form elongated strings which may penetrate through the burning surface, conducting heat from the hot environment into the condensed fuel, thereby substantially increasing its burning rate.
