What is it about?

Rocket plume contamination can create multiple operational concerns for spacecraft; for example, the collection of molecules on solar arrays and thermal control surfaces can lead to decreased power production and increased spacecraft temperatures. Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS), the same material used to make Legos@, has emerged as a very promising new spacecraft fuel for small spacecraft. The study assess the potential spacecraft contamination effects resulting from ABS combustion.
