What is it about?

Silica-phenolic is an insulator material commonly employed in solid rocket motor nozzles. This material is a charring-ablator, that is it decomposes under heat load, and also loses mass through its exposed surface. On the other hand, interior ballistics performance of a solid rocket motor depends heavily on the diameter of nozzle throat. We demonstrate a coupled analysis strategy to study both aspects, interior ballistics and silica-phenolic material response.
