What is it about?
When a spacecraft enters a planet’s atmosphere, shock waves and plasma cause intense heating. We developed a new system that generates strong magnetic fields with flexible spatial distribution to control this plasma flow. Wind tunnel experiments showed that the applied magnetic field changed the luminous region around the model, suggesting a promising approach for future thermal protection.
